N.E.S.W. 2010 is the first in a series of hands-on embedded systems design workshops aimed to introduce advanced embedded technology to professionals, engineers and computer scientists in Syria and the Middle East region. These workshops will usually focus on a certain technology and will delve into both hardware architecture and software programming. This will be a great networking event as well, it's an opportunity to meet like-minded people interested in embedded systems as well as entrepreneurs who are excited about learning and starting businesses in technology development. The theme for our first workshop is 32 bit Microcontrollers, Features & Applications.
Our platform of choice is the AVR32 microcontroller from ATMEL which has a really powerful yet relatively simple architecture. Other advantages of using AVR32 include low cost and easy interfacing. AVR Studio is a completely free and excellent IDE tool for programming these microcontrollers. We will be using custom boards designed by our engineering team to directly apply theory to practice during these workshops. This workshop will introduce topics widely used in the industry although unfamiliar to professionals in the Middle East. These include USB, Ethernet and the use of Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) to enhance designs and come up with really sophisticated systems. If you're interested and excited about Embedded Systems, then this event will certainly be an excellent opportunity. This workshop is a 3 day event and will be held at the Dedeman hotel in Aleppo from September 21 to 23, 2010.
